Welcome to Hurricane Alley Roller Derby (HARD)

On behalf of the H.A.R.D board and league members WELCOME!

Owned and operated by the skaters, H.A.R.D. was inspired by the nation-wide revival of roller derby as an athletic sport. H.A.R.D. is a group of amazing women, from all different backgrounds, who came together to promote roller derby in Corpus Christi, Texas. You'll find basic information here that will help you decide if H.A.R.D. and roller derby are right for you. If you choose to join our ranks you will become part of an exciting sisterhood we call
ROLLER DERBY!
Again, welcome and thanks again for your interest in our league.
Hugs and Slugs,
Hurricane Alley Roller Derby

Below is the basic “FYI”. If you choose to move forward you will be given another package that contains detailed league information. Contact www.hurricanealleyrd.com with any questions.

Let’s get started!

Who can join?

You must be a woman, 18 years of age or older to be a roller girl with H.A.R.D. Don’t let your level of skating skills stop you from giving us a try! We will train everyone from beginners to advanced skaters on the art of roller derby! We also have very important support positions for men and woman who are not interested in being on a team, but want to be part of roller derby. Please consider being a referee, time keeper, jeerleader, stat keeper, photographer, promoter…WE”LL FIND SOMETHING FOR YOU!!!

What's it cost?

Membership Expenses: Because we are skater owned and operated we are responsible for expenses incurred for doing derby business. We raise most of our money from sponsorships, bout productions and selling league merchandise. Some expenses must be absorbed by the skaters. All league members are required to obtain sponsors and this can be discussed if you choose to join H.A.R.D.

Equipment Expenses: Each skater is responsible for obtaining her own equipment. For good quality protective equipment, plan on spending $150.00 to $200.00 to get started. Of course, you may be able to borrow or purchase used equipment. Talk to other skaters for advice BEFORE you purchase your equipment. Keep in mind that the quality of your equipment is very important! It protects your most important asset - YOU! Also, don’t let the cost of equipment scare you! Like everything else, as you get better so will your equipment!

The minimum requirements are:
  • Quad skates

  • Mouth piece

  • Helmet

  • Wrist guards

  • Knee pads

  • Elbow pads

No one will be permitted to skate without the required safety equipment!
NO EXCEPTIONS! SO DON’T ASK!

TRAINING AND PRACTICES:

Like any sport, joining roller derby is a commitment! Your advancement in the league depends on you!

Passing a minimum skills test at a scheduled TRYOUT is required to be placed on a league team, Bruised Meat or Bout Ready.

When placed on the Bruised Meat squad, you will work on repetitive drills and skills with seasoned members, so showing up to practice and training hard is very important for you to advance to Bout Ready status.

Once you become a Bout Ready league skater you are required to attend a minimum of 8 practices a month.

Three practices are offered each week, so this shouldn’t be too hard. We practice at Saxet Hall @ 3952 Leopard.

NEW GIRL Practice Time:

  • TUESDAY: 6 - 7:30 PM

ALL OTHER PRACTICE TIMES ARE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC

VERY IMPORTANT
NO alcohol or drug use prior to or during practice will be tolerated.
You will be asked to leave and will be considered a total douche bag by everyone!!
